Reducing Food Waste
It is estimated that over 50% the food waste that ends up in our landfills comes from the home. Because there will always be banana peels, fish bones and onion skins that we do not eat, we will never get to ZERO food waste. However, by using a few easy to follow rules, we can greatly reduce what ends up going to the landfill or our compost pile.
The printable chart below describes some easy to learn tools to help you discard the bare minimum of what you buy. Oh, and speaking of your hard earned dollars and cents, the EPA estimates that each year a family of four pitches over $1500 worth of food. That’s a lot of outdated milk and last weeks’ chicken enchilada leftovers that you found in the back of the fridge!! We can do better!
